Where the Ocean Meets the Sky

There are evenings in Playa Guiones when the tide pulls so far back that the beach becomes something else entirely. The sand turns to glass. The ocean stretches thin and wide. And the sky spills down until it feels like the whole world is made of light and reflection.

On those nights, it doesn’t feel like you’re standing on a beach. It feels like you’ve stepped into another realm.

The horizon disappears. The clouds melt into the water. The colors of sunset—pink, gold, lavender, and fire—stretch across the wet sand like a painting that never quite stays still. Every step leaves a ripple. Every movement feels softer, slower, quieter.

And in the middle of it all, there he was—my son—completely absorbed in the smallest, most important task in the world: digging in the sand.

No awareness of the sky exploding in color behind him.No thought about how rare or magical the moment was. Just muddy hands, a tiny shovel, and total presence.

Children have a way of anchoring you in the moment like that. While the sky puts on a performance, they remind you that wonder lives just as much in the handful of sand between your fingers as it does in the clouds above.

I watched him crouched there in the glow of the sunset, the wet sand reflecting the sky all around him, and it felt like he was sitting at the center of two worlds—the earth beneath him and the heavens above—perfectly content in both.

Playa Guiones has this gift. At low tide, it blurs the edges of everything.

The ocean meets the sky.The sky meets the sand. And for a little while, it feels like there are no boundaries at all.

Just light. Just color. Just a child playing at the edge of the world.
